Welcome to Zero Waste San Antonio!
This website is a gathering of resources for people wanting to decrease their environmental impact on the world by decreasing the amount of single-use products they use. Specifically, it focuses on San Antonio.
I love San Antonio. We’re the biggest small town in the United States, hands down. Everyone knows everyone or at least knows someone mutually. There isn’t the cramped feeling or traffic congestion of Austin. There’s enough goodness to go around.
That being said, San Antonio is not always the most environmentally-geared towns. We have approximately 2 protected bike lanes in a city of +1.5 million people, you can expect a 1-hour commute anywhere via public transport, and people are still putting diapers in the city organics bins. These issues are often unique to San Antonio, and this blog will focus on some of those issues and what you can do as an individual to help make them non-issues!
This is also a community of people in progress. We’re all learning and doing our best with the resources we have available. All suggestions here are merely that – suggestions. Know that if you can’t or don’t feel comfortable doing something to decrease your waste, that doesn’t make you any less of an environmentalist. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts you have. I’m always happy to answer questions – no question is too small!
